Impressive refurbishment for the iconic Grand Hôtel lobby

The Grand Hôtel in Stockholm will begin 2015 by further developing what is the heart and perhaps the most important part of the hotel – the lobby. Here, the approximate one million guests who pass through the lobby each year form their first impression of the hotel. A key change is a new white marble floor with carpet inlays instead of today’s wall-to-wall carpeting. Furthermore, the lobby will be fitted with completely new lighting, enhancing the already welcoming ambiance for guests.

Work will begin on January 6, with the main entrance of the hotel temporarily moving to the Hall of Mirrors entrance and a new lobby set up in the coat-check foyer. By Valentine’s Day, the lobby revamp will be completed, with business as usual. In conjunction with the lobby renovation, the operations of the Veranda restaurant and the Cadier Bar will be moved to the Bolinderska Palace, giving guests the opportunity to visit parts of the hotel that are otherwise not open to the public. In an exciting new pop up restaurant and bar environment guests will be able to enjoy lunch, dinner and a fully equipped bar. During the first five weeks of the renovation, Grand Hôtel’s popular breakfast buffet will served in the light and airy Uppsala banquet room.

On January 12, following a thorough revamp, the Cadier Bar will be open as usual and the Veranda restaurant, accessible via Stallgatan during the lobby renovation, will be open for lunch and dinner. From February 13, guests will be able to enjoy the new lobby. All renovation work will be completed by mid-March.

“The Grand Hôtel’s lobby has a delightful ambiance, which we wish to further enhance. We have therefore chosen to lay a new marble floor instead of exchanging the existing wall-to-wall carpeting for a new one. The renovation process will involve some temporary logistical restructuring, however, as usual, we will be providing guests with our renowned five-star hotel experience during this period. Part of this includes opening up areas of the hotel that our guests usually do not get to see. We are all eagerly awaiting the changes that lie ahead,” said Pia Djupmark, CEO of the Grand Hôtel.
